1Why ALIS

Different by Design

Most personality assessments begin by observing similarities among people. They group recurring answers or behaviors, assign names to those groups, and use statistical relationships to estimate how someone with a similar profile is likely to behave.

ALIS followed the opposite path. It began as a cognitive shell designed to generate behavior in video game characters. To work, the system had to receive information, evaluate changing conditions, and produce a coherent response. When the same architecture was applied to human behavior, it exposed the patterns that produce recognizable personality and behavioral differences.

ALIS does not interpret any Trait, Characteristic, Quality, or response in isolation. Each part is read through its relationship with the complete behavioral system. It also treats the person, the stimulus, and the surrounding environment as separate but interacting sources of information.

ALIS does not ask which category a person resembles. It models the structure through which that individual interprets information and produces behavior.
